JEMY’s Extravagant List of New Year’s Resolutions

Time to Set All Them Lofty Goals

So I actually like New Years for all the New Year’s Resolutions. I like having a month where I start a new goal and the clean slate feeling. There’s the initial sense of accomplishment, the hopes and dreams of what the year could become, and call me a sap, but I love that. I set all them goals, from little habit tracking stuff to big, moon-grabbing resolutions.

Do I stick with my goals all year?

No.

Do I accomplish most of them?

Also no. Probably.

But I do like to start and go for as long as I can. Sometimes writing them down can be helpful, and that’s what I’m gonna do today!

This time though, I’m also going to lay out a few things that I plan to do to accomplish said goals. Maybe it’ll help me set up a game plan to make 2024 the best one yet (might be tough, I personally have a preference for years that end in an odd number. Idk why).

Either way, I want to try, and I figured I’d hold myself accountable to this little blog.

I think everyone aspires to make them big money moves in their full-time job. Maybe they don’t want the extra work, but if you could get the paper by taking a few initiatives here or there at work, why not?

So that’s what I want to do. I want to get a promotion by the end of the year, and with it, a raise.

I’ve been with this company for a little over a year now, and so far, my performance has been great. I get my work done on time, I’m friendly and helpful to others, and I’ve explicitly stated that I want a promotion, that I want a raise, and that I’m willing to put in the work.

Fortunately or unfortunately, these roles don’t necessarily have ironed out job descriptions. Everyone that’s in the role above me have different responsibilities, and so it’s difficult to see what it takes for me to get from point A to point B. I’ve been working closely with my boss about this, and they’ve been very encouraging with my aspirations to move up. It’s been hinted that I probably need more work experience/tenure at the company before I can move up in title, which is a little frustrating. There have also been hints at creating levels for my current role so there’s a lower tier and an upper tier. Again, also think that’s frustrating. But, working with what I know, here are some of my goals and ideas on how I plan to show initiative.

  1. Earning a new designation in my field. Having more certifications will help me stand out and show my interest in my career. I also think it shows people that I’m interested in becoming a subject matter expert in different areas. I think this will show my desire to be taken seriously despite my age.
  2. Creating standards of operations for my various tasks. Our company is a little disorganized when it comes to our systems, and I think that having some more guidance, at least within our small team, will help show that I want to help us standardize processes to make the smaller, mundane tasks easier.
  3. Volunteer and help in other departments. We work closely with other teams, and I think continuously showing that I’m a team player will be useful for this.
  4. Taking more initiative with tasks. I currently wait to implement certain changes with my boss to make sure they’re okay with them, and while I would rather be safe than sorry and just assume everything is fine, I do need to start showing some initiative and take ownership of tasks without being told. Hopefully this helps relieve some of the task load on my boss.

I’m Here for That Personal Growth

Okay, now for the fun, not so big and lofty goals. I always love these particular goals because they just add some change to the daily routine that I’ve gotten accustomed to. You know, time to quit taking naps after work, heating up frozen meals… Now is a great opportunity to get out of my comfort zone and have a little fun trying to better myself.

So, here are a few of the goals I have. I try to keep them easily attainable so that I can turn them into habits. And then if I ever fall off the wagon, the lift to get back on track isn’t that heavy, either.

  1. I’d like to continue reading every day. My official goal for reading is to complete 24 books, but, I think I can do better than that. Last year I read over 50 books, and I hope to do the same if not better! Some ways I try to keep my reading goal is just by reading at least one page every single day. Usually a page turns into two, which turns into ten, which turns into a chapter. I always end up reading more than one page, but as long as I read one, that’s a successful day!
  2. Write something creative every day. This can be for this blog, a script for YouTube, or even writing in a physical journal. Anything works, and I have no minimum word requirement.
  3. Cook a meal twice a month. I’m not a fan of cooking (takes too long). I don’t really eat out a lot, so it just leaves me eating a lot of frozen meals, prepackaged stuff, and my favorite… Girl Dinner. Snacks are queen. But yeah, I want to cook some more and learn new things, and so if I make 24 meals this year of things I haven’t really cooked before, that’s a win!
  4. Work out at the gym at least once a month. I’m pretty good about staying active, but it’s been a very long time since I worked out at the gym. So I want to utilize my gym membership. And if I don’t utilize said gym membership, then I suppose this will be the year I cancel it lol. Put that money to good use elsewhere!
  5. I’d like to reduce my screen time for things like TikTok or movies/TV shows. If I do watch something, then hopefully I can expand my horizons and watch something new.

⭐ TLDR: I like New Years’ Resolutions, and I usually have many to start out the year. Whether or not I keep up with them will be a mystery, but we’re gonna try!

New Year, New Blog Post to Like and Follow

Well, that’s all she wrote! Quite a few goals here, but I think if I can achieve most of these, I’ll call it a year well spent. And while I typically prefer years that end in an odd number (don’t ask why, I have no idea why I have this preference), I do think 2024 is going to be a great year!
